CPM, PMK seek arrest of Rama Mohana Rao
Chennai: CPI (M) and PMK on Tuesday sought arrest of former chief secretary Rama Mohana Rao and all those associated with them to conduct a thorough probe and punish them.
The Marxist party called for Rao's arrest as it protested against the Chief Minister “not being informed” of the raids at the Secretariat.
A resolution was adopted at a meeting of the party's state committee, where senior leaders, including its politburo member Prakash Karat and Tamil Nadu secretary G. Ramakrishnan participated. Though raids had been conducted at Rao's house and office besides those at mining baron Sekhar Reddy's premises, the Chief Minister had not responded to them, it said.
Rao had been appointed as Chief Secretary by Jayalalithaa superceding a few officers, it recalled and pointed out at reports of “wealth amassed by him.” “The (former) Chief Secretary and all those who were involved in corruption should be arrested and after proper investigation their property should be confiscated and nationalised,” the party said
The PMK wanted the income tax department to release the details of items seized from Rao and his relatives' premises. “The income tax department must continue its raids and unearth black money and root out corruption,” said PMK founder S. Ramadoss. He also demanded the arrest of Mr Rao as he might hinder the progress of the probe.
