Prof. Aruna Roy receives ‘Sankalp Kiron Puraskar’
HYDERABAD: Social activist and Ramon Magsaysay Awardee, Prof. Aruna Roy has on Monday received ‘Sankalp Kiron Puraskar’ at a glittering function held at People’s Plaza, here in Hyderabad, as part of ‘Sankalp Diwas 2022’.
Sankalp Diwas is held every November 28 to mark the birthday celebration of philanthropist, Lion Dr. Y. Kiron, founder of SuchirIndia and the ‘Sankalp Kiron Puraskar’ award has been instituted by SuchirIndia Foundation, the CSR arm of SuchirIndia.
The award was presented to Prof. Aruna Roy by Finance, Health Minister T Harish Rao. Rural Development Minister E Dayakar Rao also presented various awards on the occasion.
In addition to Prof. Aruna Roy, who was conferred this year's top honour, there were many others whose contributions were recognized and honoured during the award ceremony. Each recipient was greeted with wholesome applause by the large gathering.
Sankalp Siddhi Puraskars was given to six NGOs for their selfless service to specially-abled children and individuals.
Sankalp Visishta Atithis were Ms. Bala Latha, Director - CSB IAS Academy, former Deputy Director - Ministry of Defense, 2-times Civil Services ranker, Social Activist and Motivator; and Mr. M Sreenivasulu, 2-times National Presidential Awardee, member of Telangana State Advisory Board.
Expressing her delight in receiving the Puraskar, Prof. Aruna Roy, founder of Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan, said, "I feel privileged with the ‘Sankalp Kiron Puraskar’ honour bestowed on me. I laud Lion Dr. Kiron, who found a unique method to celebrate his birthday. His way of spending time with special children with special needs is worth emulating. India needs more such people who believe in giving, to make this country and the world a better place."
Commenting on the awards, Lion Dr. Y. Kiron, Chairman & Managing Director, SuchirIndia said, “Happiness is not when you accumulate, but when you share it with the world. I believe that every able individual must give something back to the society, and that is how we will build a beautiful tomorrow for ourselves and for our future generations. This year too, we have selected some social organizations and individuals who have been doing great work.”
