Welfare schemes seldom bring in victory for all
Hyderabad: The experience of late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy who was the pioneer of welfare measures was bitter. During 2004 to 2009 YSR has introduced several schemes which are remembered by the people now also. Like the KCR government, during YSR government also no family was left without getting benefit from his schemes and he always used to mention this in his speeches.
During a media conference at Delhi, a reporter said that his family did not get any benefit from government schemes. YSR asked him where his family resided and the scribe said Hyderabad. Then YSR asked him to enquire whether they are getting Rs 20 subsidy on gas cylinder. The central government had enhanced the price of gas cylinder by Rs 20 but YSR government paid that subsidy not to burden the people.
In 2004 Assembly elections, the Congress won 185 seats and YSR was very confident that with introduction of several welfare schemes, in 2009 Assembly elections the Congress would win 230 seats out of the 294. But the Congress could win won only 155 seats.
