Pinarayi Vijayan to open multi-speciality block at MCH on Thursday
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will throw open the new Multi Speciality Block (MSB) at the Medical College Hospital to the public this Thursday. The MSB is going to be a boon for hundreds of patients, who can't afford speciality treatment at private hospitals. The state government had invested Rs 6 crores for equipping the block with world-class facilities.
According to authorities, the block is being opened for the public after conducting a trial run to ensure quality treatment for the patients. The block has around 146 beds, which include 102 ICU beds with ventilator facilities and 44 high-quality care beds.
The seven-storey building houses the intensive care units of various specialities including a geriatric section for comprehensive treatment of the elderly patients, multi-disciplinary ICU of the surgical and neurosurgery division, Cardiac ICU and Cardio-Thoracic operation theatre. A modern mortuary is another added attraction to the block.
Health Minister K K Shylaja, in a release issued here on Tuesday, said that the Medical College will be able to provide world-class treatment for public and poor people alike. She said that sufficient staffs have been deployed at the block to ensure smooth functioning of the block. The department is also planning to make fresh appointments to ensure quality service.
Parking area, dining area for bystanders are some of the other facilities at the block. The inauguration of the facility will be held at 5 pm on Thursday at a function presided over by Minister K K Shylaja.
