Pampa: BJP MP bemoans 144

Meanwhile, the flow of devotees is getting mom-entum. More than 50,000 pilgrims had darshan on Monday which is the highest this season.

Pampa: P.C. Mohan, the BJP MP from Bangalore Central, and Rajajinagar MLA Suresh Kumar offered prayers at Sabarimala on Tuesday.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Mohan said that the Kerala government was trying to create fear among pilgrims by imposing Section 144 of CrPC.

“Sabarimala is a place where peace must prevail. The situation is volatile now. We will send a letter to chief ministers of Kerala and Karnataka to bring back peace here," he said.

BJP parliamentarians including Nalinkumar Kateel, V. Muraleedhar-an and ministers like K.J. Alphonse and Pon Radhakrishnan had visited Sabarimala since the pilgrimage season began this month.

The visit of Mr Radhakrishnan had courted controversy after police refused to allow private vehicles to Pampa from Nilakkal. Following this, he too took public transport in a mark of protest.

Meanwhile, the flow of devotees is getting momentum. More than 50,000 pilgrims had darshan on Monday which is the highest this season.

Despite opposition parties and Hindu outfits protesting against the Section 144 extended till Friday, no untoward incident occurred on Sabarimala or base camps. The police allowed the women and children to stay after 11 pm.

Police had arrested over 160 pilgrims from Sannidhanam for conducting namajapam (chanting of Ayyappa slogans) breaching the prohibitory orders since the season started.
