There was a tremendous response to Mr Modi at the public meeting in Mahbubnagar. His name was chanted when he was seen on the screens put up around the venue.

Mr Modi apologised to people who had to stand in the hot sun as the seating area was filled. “Our state party has arranged less seating capacity and I'm sorry for that,” he said.

He said the country would have been better if Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had been the first Prime Minister. “Without Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, there would have been no Hyderabad for India and we might have had to apply for a Pakistani visa to visit Hyderabad,” he said. He invited the people of Mahbubnagar to visit the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Gujarat which he has had installed, and was answered by loud cheers. The people of Mahbubnagar got to hear both the Prime Minister and the Caretaker Chief Minister on the same day.
