CM Pinarayi Vijayan calls upon LSGs to rebuild Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said the project preparation of local bodies was in progress and it would complete by December end. He was inaugurating the two-day workshop on preparing Nava Kerala action plan.
Mr Vijayan said the state could achieve utilisation of over 90 percent plan fund 2017-18. Even in the midst of devastating floods, the state could utilise 45 percent of plan fund till now in the current fiscal, he said and asked local bodies to prepare projects which gave priority to building Nava Kearla.
The Chief Minister said the government after coming to power in 2016 could ensure district level plans and local bodies played a crucial role in project preparation. The state should be able to progress keeping in with the needs of the time.
While creating Nava Kerala the focus should be mainly on creation of jobs. Besides, the schemes should aim at strengthening the existing projects in health, education, industry and tourism sectors.
Mr Vijayan said local bodies should take strong measures to ensure waste management facilities for abattoirs, hotels and hospitals. He said the government was not against hotels but there can be no compromise on hygienic food and waste disposal facilities.
The Chief Minister said that the scheme for constructing houses for the landless families would begin this year. Each district should implement a pilot project and get sponsors at the local level. The process of construction of 50,000 houses has begun for families who own land but do not have homes.
Mr Vijayan urged local bodies representatives to conduct awareness programmes to check dumping of waste in rivers and ponds.
