Chennai: T M Krishna bats for plastic-free sabhas
Chennai: Going beyond the realm of music, Carnatic singer T. M. Krishna who has expressed his social commitment to wage a war against the use of plastics has appealed to artistes and public, as well, to strive for a plastic-free state. Asserting that artistes and public have a crucial role, he claimed some music organisations in the city have responded positively to his suggestion to keep out plastics.
The popular singer took to twitter to make the appeal. He said he was happy to note that some of the major music organisations in Chennai “responded positively” to his email urging them to discontinue the use of plastics. “We too as artists and audiences have to participate in making this change happen. Please do read and share widely,” he urged in a tweet.
While reminding Tamil Nadu government's commitment to rid of disposable plastics from January 2019, he said, “Should you wish to go further to making your organisation a “Zero Waste” institution, I will be happy to put you in touch with people who can help you do just that. If you have already implemented these ideas, my sincere appreciation to you and your organisation.”
Explaining that the use and throw of plastic water bottles are an environmental hazard, he said it was “important that we, as members of civil society do everything in our power to stop / minimise its use.”
