Kerala 'love jihad': Senior lawyer Narayanan described as RSS agent'

The Ernakulam Central police also launched a probe into a complaint forwarded by state police chief Loknath Behra.

Kochi: The Kochi city police on Monday registered a case under Section 120 of the Kerala Police Act 2011 against the alleged threats received by a senior lawyer who appeared for the state government in the Hadiya case before the Kerala High Court. The Ernakulam Central police also launched a probe into a complaint forwarded by state police chief Loknath Behra. Police sources said senior government pleader P. Narayanan filed the complaint against one Nazeer, who allegedly issued veiled threats on social media describing him an RSS agent.

The post from the handle KeyCeeNaseerNasi on October 26 had said the lawyer had collided with the RSS and gave a legal opinion against the order of the Human Rights Commission to record Hadiya’s statement when allegations of rights violation surfaced. When this was placed before him by the police, he told the officials that a petition filed by her husband Shefin Jahan had been pending before the apex court, and hence her statement could not be taken. "Distorted facts with innuendos are being spread on social media regarding my role as a state law officer in the conduct of the said case. The messages contain express and veiled threats against me," read the complaint.

The post has been shared by 346 persons and invited a large number of comments, a few of which bordered on "extremism and some life-threatening," it noted. The Ernakulam Central Police Station has approached the cyber cell to identify the authors. In another post, the account holder said he could not sleep because of the conduct of the Hadiya case by the lawyer contrary to the stand taken by the state police, but he had been restraining himself.
