Chennai: A PIL has been filed in the Madras high court to declare as illegal, erection of hoardings, banners, arches and flex boards etc, in connection with the MGR centenary celebrations at Coimbatore on December 3, on public roads in a manner dangerous to the lives of public by obstructing road users from free usage of roads.

In his petition, DMK MLA from Singanallur assembly constituency N.Karthick also sought a direction to the state government to pay suitable compensation to the family of a techie, whose two-wheeler, hit against a wooden log protruding from a hoarding, fell down and died on November 26.

He said Raghupathy (32), a non-resident Indian, who had come on vacation from USA, was a permanent resident of Chinniyampalayam in Singanallur. He came to his native place about two weeks ago to be with his parents in search of his life partner and was about to return to USA on November 26.

He wanted to have a darshan of Sri Dhandayudhapani Swamy at Palani and was proceeding from his house in a two-wheeler to Singanallur bus stand to board a bus to Palani.

Unfortunately, his two-wheeler hit against a wooden log protruding from a hoarding being erected by the ruling party people for setting up a large sized decorative arch on Avinashi road. He fell down and was run over by an unidentified heavy vehicle, which resulted in his death on the spot. Various similar incidents were taking place in the state where the lives of the public have been taken away by the illegal erection of hoardings, banners and flex boards on and beside the public passage and roads, he added.
