Techie dies in mishap on Outer Ring Road

Police said that they are checking how Amit could enter ORR despite patrolling and having a toll gate at the entrance.

Hyderabad: A 24-year-old techie was killed in an accident on ORR early on Sunday morning. The mishap occurred when an unknown vehicle hit the bike that Amit Kumar Rai and his friend were riding. Police said that despite restrictions on the movement of bikes on ORR, Amit drove around 15 km from Gachibowli till Shamshabad.

Police said Amit Kumar Rai, hailing from Kolkata, was working as a software engineer for Tech Mahindra. He and his friend Mohammed Anees started from Gachibowli to RGI Airport on their bike. Amit was riding and Anees was on the pillion.

“When they reached exit #17 of ORR, an unknown vehicle hit them. Both were thrown off and fell on the road. Amit suffered a serious head injury and died on the spot,” Rajendranagar SI K. Venkat Reddy said. Anees, who also suffered serious injuries, was hospitalised in a critical condition.

Police recovered the number plate (AP 11AT 8181) of an unknown vehicle from the accident spot, which they suspect is the vehicle that hit Amit's bike.

Police said that they are checking how Amit could enter ORR despite patrolling and having a toll gate at the entrance. An accidental death case was registered, based on a complaint from his roommate Soumyadeep Sur.
