Vijayawada/Kurnool: The APSRTC has given specific instructions to its regional managers to take the assistance of the police to run buses if required during Monday’s bandh called by non-Congress Opposition parties, corporation managing director M. Malakondaiah told this newspaper on Sunday.
Vijayawada city police commissioner D. Gautam Sawang said that up to seven additional police battalions will be deployed in Vijayawada to respond to any untoward incident during the day.
“We are prepared to tackle any situation. As long as the protestors act in a democratic way, we will not intervene,” Mr Sawang said. “If they try to obstruct buses or any public transport and try to close shops, they will be dealt with seriously,” he said.
The Congress made it clear it had not called for a bandh on Monday but would hold protests across the country against demonetisation which, it alleged, was a political move being sold as a fight against corruption.
