Bengaluru: The stretch of road opposite the Maramma Temple and Sahiti Doddarange Gowda Road, falling under Kathriguppe 3rd stage, a part of Kathriguppe BBMP ward, has been dug up by BBMP, in the process damaging the already completed drain works.
In a classic example of putting the cart before the horse, BBMP, which had desilted the drains and laid stone slabs over the drains, has now dug up the road to produce concrete roads which have damaged the already-laid stone slabs.
Ms Muthamma, a resident of Maramma Temple Road, Katriguppe 3rd stage, said, “We have lived in this area for the past 25 years. Recently workers from the BBMP desilted the drains in the area, laid stone slabs over it and applied cement. Even before the cement could dry, BBMP started to dig up the roads, in the process damaging the drain works!”
She suggested that BBMP should have taken up the works relating to laying the roads and setting the drains simultaneously. “It is a criminal waste of money. The unnecessary damage to the already-completed works could have been averted,” Muthamma said.
Women’s safety an issue
The recent incident of abduction of a woman is still fresh in the minds of residents. “Ever since the incident came to light, we are living in fear. We dare not step out alone. Measures have to be taken to increase the patrolling in the area so that we can roam in the vicinity without any fear,” commented Lakshmamma, a home-maker.
Kathriguppe residents also had issues relating to garbage. “At the very entrance of the area, at Kathriguppe main road, garbage is dumped, which has to be stopped immediately by civic authorities,” said Krishna Kumar, a resident.

We first completed work relating to drains and then laid the new roads. I too got complaints from residents over the damage being done by the digging-up of roads. All the problems will be set right after the laying of the road.
When will the work be completed? Residents complain that the work is progressing at a a snail’s pace..
The work got delayed because of a series of holidays, including Ayudha Pooja and Deepawali. Works relating to laying of roads will be completed by this month-end or early December
The incident of someone allegedly trying to abduct and molest a girl in Kathriguppe is still fresh in the public mind and women in the area are scared. What has been done to instil confidence among the women in your ward?
After the incident I had several meetings with the police department on how to avert such shocking events in future. I have demanded that the police increase their patrolling in the area. With the limited manpower at their disposal, they are keeping a vigil in the area apart from installing CCTVs for monitoring.
