TPCC urges EC to up leaders' security
Hyderabad: The TPCC has demanded that the Election Commission should increase the security cover for all top Congress leaders in the state, including granting Z-category security for TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.
In a letter to the Election Commission, TPCC treasurer Guduru Narayana Reddy, said that the Commission should direct the security review committee (SRC) to conduct a fresh review of the threat perception to Congress leaders in view of the Assembly elections.
He said many Congress leaders, including TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy were prone to attacks like the one that happened to YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at the Vizag airport recently.
He said the state government had withdrawn the security cover of former MLAs Komatireddy Venkata Reddy and A. Sampath Kumar. TPCC working president A. Revanth Reddy has already approached the court, seeking additional security citing threat to his life from anti-social elements.
TPCC leader Narayana Reddy also feared that the ruling TRS leaders might use some anti-social elements to carry out physical attacks on prominent leaders of the Congress party to prevent them from participating in the election campaigns. He also demanded security cover for all important leaders of the Mahakutami.
