Power sharing leads to verbal duel in TD
Vijayawada: The women leaders of Telugu Desam had a verbal duel over power sharing at the municipal office at Macherla in Guntur district on Saturday.
TD leader and former municipal chairperson N. Mangamma abused the present chairperson Sk Shakirun. The latter, along with her husband, Abdul Jaleel, lodged a complaint against Ms Mangamma with the Macherla Urban police.
Mangamma and Sk Shakirun belong to the TD and are supposed to share power on term basis.
For the first two years, the party leadership gave the chairperson post to Gopavarapu Sridevi, who continued in the position for an extra three months which led to differences among the women leaders. However, party senior leaders intervened and ironed out the differences.
Disturbed over the differences, Ms Sridevi resigned and she died in a few days.
Later, Nellore Mangamma had taken oath as the chairperson and served for 2 years and 6 months in the position. As per the agreement, she had to resign after this period but she refused to do so.
Then TD Macherla president Chalama Reddy held talks and resolved the issue.
In August, Ms Shakirun assumed charge as the chairperson, as part of the agreement.
On Saturday, former chairperson Ms Mangamma demanded that all the pending bills in the municipality, for the last one year, should be cleared. To this, Ms Shakirun replied that some of the bills had already been cleared and that the rest would be cleared in the next few days.
Ms Mangamma persisted that all the bills should be cleared and entered into an argument with Ms Shakirun, leading to heated exchange of words.
Macherla CI K. Dileep Kumar said that the police did not register any complaint as the TD leaders just informed about the duel. He said that the police will inquire into the matter.
