The minister visited Polavaram irrigation project in West Godavari on Saturday accompanied by farmers from Raptadu Assembly segment.

Rajahmundry: Denying that Telugu Desam government failed to provide proper security to YSR Congress chief and Leader of the Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy following an attack on him recently at Visakhapatnam airport and hurting him slightly, minister for civil supplies Paritala Sunitha wondered how Jagan could have taken up Praja Sankalpa Yatra without police security.

The minister visited Polavaram irrigation project in West Godavari on Saturday accompanied by farmers from Raptadu Assembly segment. Speaking on the occasion, she reacted sharply to the hype being created by the YSR Congress leaders claiming that the state government failed to provide proper protection to their leader. She asked why leaders like these failed to raise their voice when the former minister and her husband Paritala Ravindra was murdered in broad daylight.

The minister said that that the state police hyad been providing necessary security to the Leader of the Opposition while he was taking up Praja Sankalpa Yatra. She said the attack on Jagan took place in the airport where the Central security personnel were supposed to provide him security and not the state police.

Earlier, the minister assessed the progress of execution of various components of the project and walked in the spillway gallery for some distance with the farmers. Speaking on the occasion, she credited Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for taking up Maha Sangamam in the state by initiating inter-linking of rivers. She said that apart from linking Godavari river with Krishna, efforts were on to link Vamsadhara with Penna rivers. She said that the Polavaram project work was going on at a brisk pace, adding that diversion of Godavari water to Krishna delta through Pattiseema project helped farmers in Krishna to cultivate crops and reap rich harvest. She said that by diverting Krishna river water through Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project to Rayalaseema, the state government curbed the drought situation in the region.
