Kerala CM condemns ashram attack
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said strict action will be taken against the culprits behind the attack on Sandeepananda Giri’s ashram at Kundamankadavu.
The Chief Minister said the attack on the ashram was highly condemnable. “Dissent must be voiced through ideas and not by unleashing violence. The use of violence reveals the ideological bankruptcy of the attackers,” he said.
The Chief Minister said no one would be allowed to take law into their hands. “Swami ji championed the cause of secularism and has been a strong critic of attempts to politicise religious spaces. Our society must rise against such attacks,” he said.
The Chief Minister said Kerala’s secular mind was with the swami ji. Swami Sandeepananda Giri has to carry forward his responsibility further.
Meanwhile, a host of leaders visited Sandeepan-anda’s ashram following the attack. Devaswom Minister said the Sangh Parivar wanted to silence secular voices through such heinous attacks.
Finance Ministe Thomas Isaac visited the ashram along with Chief Minister. He said the secular forces should come together to defeat the designs of Sangh Parivar outfits.
CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said the attempt was to threaten and curb freedom of speech.
