D Srinivas meets Rahul Gandhi amidst speculations

As of now, Srinivas has not joined in Congress which may led to disqualification of his Rajya Sabha seat.

Nizamabad: Political equations will change in the Congress party in TS, especially in undivided Nizamabad district, if former PCC chief and Rajya Sabha member D. Srinivas will re-join the Congress party. Realising the speculations, the senior politician met Congress president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday for a ‘courtesy call’. As of now, Srinivas has not joined in Congress which may led to disqualification of his Rajya Sabha seat.

Followers of Srinivas had already joined in Congress party last week at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad. Srinivas alone met Rahul Gandhi and discussed several issues related to TS and the Congress party, sources said.

Reportedly, Srinivas told the Congress president that he would extend his support to the party unconditionally. Srinivas’ meeting with Rahul Gandhi got mixed response in Nizamabad district as his followers felt happy with the development.

However, political opponents of Srinivas in Congress party are worried over his re-entry into the party fold. Allegedly, a group of leaders handed over the FIR copy of criminal cases against the elder son of D. Srinivas and former Mayor D. Sanjay to Rahul Gandhi recently. Reportedly, they urged the party president not to encourage Srinivas in the Congress party. Mainly, MLC Akula Lalitha, TPCC secretary N. Ratnakar, TPCC official spokesman B. Mahesh Kumar Goud have differences with Srinivas.

According to reliable sources, former MP, AICC spokesman Madhu Goud Yashki recently met D.Srinivas and discussed about the party affairs. To polarise OBC leadership in Telangana state, a section of leaders are taking initiative to invite Srinivas into the party fold. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a close aide to Srinivas said that Srinivas will get previous glory in the Congress party soon. The party may consider his word in the finalisation of MLA ticket for Nizamabad urban Assembly constituency, he said.
