Civic neglect: Bellandur residents form human chain
Bengaluru: Residents of Bellandur and surrounding areas under the aegis of 'Save Bellandur' formed a human chain on Saturday to protest against the garbage menace and lack of infrastructure.
Over 60 Resident Welfare and Appartments Associations and civic groups such as Kasa Mukhta Bellandur, Doddakannelli Rising, Chikkanayakanahalli Forum, Bangalore Apartment Federation and Carmelaram Unites, took part in the protest on Iblur, Outer Ring Road and Sarjapur Road, which are among the top five worst commutable roads in Bengaluru.
The protestors demanded better roads, proper drainage and sewer management, efficient public transport and a well-functioning solid waste management system.
"The Bellandur ward is one of the largest in the city with generates close to Rs 220 crore of as tax for BBMP. However the budget allocation for the ward is only Rs 7 crore, which is not enough for a ward measuring 27 square kilometres," the protestors pointed out.
As for health aspect, the protestors said that Bellandur records one of highest number of H1N1 cases in the city and it is mainly due to BBMP's negligence. They also highlighted the problems of garbage menace and poor drainage in Bellandur.
