Chennai: Monsoon likely on October 29, says Met department

The Met department had issued a red alert on October 7 and forecasted the onset of monsoon on October 8.

Chennai: After its predictions on northeast monsoon onset went wrong thrice since October first week, the Regional Meteorological Centre has forecasted the onset for October 29.

According to weathermen at RMC, they, a week ago, predicted onset of monsoon on October 26. However, there was no sign of developing any low-pressure. Under such condition, the RMC has stated that a low- pressure area is likely to form over West-Central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal around by October 29, 2018.

"In Chennai, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy with maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 33 and 25 degree Celsius," said a weatherman.

"While the state maintains a tense wait for northeast monsoon onset, nature churns things at its own pace without any show of emotions. With two to three false alarms already seen with regard to potential northeast monsoon onset, the key question remains is whether will northeast monsoon check in at the next available opportunity," said a weatherman.

The Met department had issued a red alert on October 7 and forecasted the onset of monsoon on October 8. However, it made a climb down from their predictions, as two low-pressures developed over Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal turned into depressions and subsequently made landfalls as cyclone in various coastal areas.
