All my complaints against judge were suppressed: John Micheal D'Cunha

The judge had shot to fame after his order convicting the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa in a disproportionate assets case.

Mangaluru: The appointment of Additional Judge, John Micheal D'Cunha, as permanent judge of the Karnataka High Court has come under a cloud with a woman from Mumbai claiming that he had suppressed her complaint against an advocate, M P Noronha in 2012 as he was his partner in a legal firm.

Ms Carmeline Pereira, who belongs to Mangaluru, but lives in Mumbai has written to the President, Prime Minister, Union Law Minister and the judges of the Supreme Court to stop judge D' Cunha’s appointment. The judge had shot to fame after his order convicting the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa in a disproportionate assets case.

“As all complaints against John Micheal D'Cunha have been suppressed since 2013 for misuse of office, he should not be made permanent,” Ms Carmeline demanded in her letter, claiming that as Registrar, (Vigilance) of the High Court of Karnataka, he had suppressed her complaint against Mr Noronha for filing a fake divorcee decree to claim her late husband, Everest Pereira’s property for his client, Gladys D'Almeida.

“Advocate Noronha is a close friend and partner of D'Cunha in a legal firm , MANU associates, in Mangaluru and hence my complaint to him dated August 2, 2012 against Noronha was suppressed," she alleged, demanding an inquiry into the matter.

Sources close to Mr Noronha, however, claimed he himself had demanded an inquiry into the case and withdrawn from it after learning that the document in question was a fake.
