Power purchase: Arch-rivals HD Kumaraswamy, DKS meet to corner BSY, Shobha

Mr Shivakumar is said to have personally met Mr Kumaraswamy at his residence on Friday to obtain his signature on the final report.

Bengaluru: They may be political rivals, but Energy Minister, D K Shivakumar and state JD(S) chief, H D Kumaraswamy seem to have found common cause in trying to "fix" state BJP chief, B S Yeddyurappa and former Minister, Shobha Karandlaje in the suspicious power deals made during the last BJP government in the state.

Mr Shivakumar is said to have personally met Mr Kumaraswamy in his house on Friday to get his signature on the final report of the legislature committee on irregularities in power purchases between 2006 and 2014. With the committee deciding to finalise its report on October 30 and table it in the coming Belagavi session of the legislature, all members were required to sign it, prompting Mr Shivakumar's visit Mr Kumaraswamy.

Although the JD(S) leader claims he quit the committee because it did not have the necessary documents to look into the deals in question, the minister, who heads it, says his resignation was not accepted and he continues to be a member of the panel.

Mr Kumaraswamy had revealed recently that he had submitted a report two months ago to the committee on the power purchases made by the BJP government, which allegedly caused a huge loss to the state exchequer. And the panel has reportedly now included his comments in its final report to nail Mr Yeddyurappa and Ms Karandlaje for the loss of Rs 28,000 crore suffered by the government at the time. Denying the allegation, Ms Karandlaje has claimed the Congress is plotting to fix her and Mr Yeddyurappa in the matter for its own ends.
