Nagarjunasagar project canal work to end next year

Hyderabad: The modernisation of Nagarjunasagar project canal will be completed by July 2018, irrigation minister T. Harish Rao told the Assembly on Friday. Replying to a question, he said 90 per cent of modernisaton works had been completed.
He said that the seepage losses on canals system will be minimised resulting in saving of water once the modernisation works are completed. He said the work had begun in 2008 and the previous Congress governments had not completed it. "They spent just over Rs 500 crore on modernisation works from 2008 to 2014. After the TRS came to power in 2014, we have spent over Rs 1,200 crore and completed 90 per cent of the work," he added. The project is being financed by World Bank.
