HC to Centre: Is there any scheme to deal with unemployment of engineering grads

The judge posted to November 7, further hearing of the case.

CHENNAI: The Madras high court has directed the Union Ministry of Human resources development secretary to answer as to whether there is any scheme available to deal with unemployment problem of the engineering graduates in our country and if is so, what is the scheme?

Suo motu impleading the Union of India as a respondent in a petition filed by S.K.Natarajan of Tirupur district, which alleged irregularities in the recruitment, Justice N.Kirubakaran gave the directive, after Senior central government standing counsel Rabu Manohar took notice for the Union government. The judge also posed 12 queries to be answered by the All India Council for Technical Education.

The queries included: How many engineering colleges were in existence in India (state wise for the past 10 years); How many students were admitted in these colleges every year; How many students have successfully completed the course every year; Whether AICTE was aware that more engineering graduates were unemployed resulting in acute unemployment problem in our country; In view of the lack of employability skills of the engineering graduates, whether the authorities have got any plan to equip those candidates with new skills by providing any training and apprenticeship and what was the percentage of employability of the engineering graduates.
