Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh signs MoU with 2 Vizag schools for sports

The Saap will enter into an agreement with eight more schools in Visakhapatnam district.

Vijayawada: The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (Saap) has entered into an agreement with two schools in Visakhapatnam as part of developing physical literacy across the state.

The Saap will enter into an agreement with eight more schools in Visakha-patnam district, which is a pilot project for Saap to promote the physical literacy among the economically backward classes.

Giving the details to Deccan Chronicle, Saap VC&MD G. Rekha Rani said that they have identified Sanskrithi School of Visakhapatnam district as the first school under this project, and as part of the project, the school will provide admissions to 20 boys and 20 girls in the disciplines of rifle shooting and archery separately.

“Initially, we want to provide admission to 800 students in the identified schools which have sports and games facilities, in different disciplines,” Ms Rekha Rani said, and added that by December, the Saap will ensure the admission of the students in all the 13 districts of the state. The 2016-17 academic year will have full scale sports admissions, she added.

“Our aim is to get ready the human resources for the national and international games in all disciplines in the next 10 years, the SAAP VC and MD said, and added that the Saap will sanction Rs 25 lakh to the schools for each sports discipline and the accommodation, food and other academic educational necessities would be taken care of by the respective schools. The Saap has identified two more schools in Krishnapatnam in Nellore district and Rajahmundry in East Godavari district, which will be arriving into an agreement with Saap shortly.

Meanwjhile, the new sports policy should incorporate a sports development centre in every constituency and it should be made accessible to people of all ages, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said at the meeting of the new sports policy held here on Thursday. He suggested some changes and improvements to it. The CM asked the officials to strictly enforce rules which make it compulsory for every school and educational institution to have a playground.
