Sand price skyrockets in Nizamabad

The price of lorry load of sand reached Rs 30,000.

Nizamabad: Sand price has been rising sharply in Nizamabad district the last few days which had an impact on the construction of buildings. In view of inflows into rivers Godavari and Manjeera and other streams, excavation of sand has been stopped. As a result, the price of sand has been increasing.

The transportation of sand to Hyderabad and other towns from Nizamabad has also been halted temporarily due to the increasing price.

The price of lorry load of sand reached Rs 30,000. Traders who had already procured sand and stocked in various places are now selling it for double the price and earning profit.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Nagaraju, a building owner, said that he halted the construction work due to shortage of sand in the last few days. “We are not able to purchase sand at such high price as it is increasing the cost of construction and we will have no profits,” he said.

It is believed that excavation of sand may start after Diwali from a few identified points in river Manjeera. Builders are waiting for the price to drop.
