Cyclone Kyant to have little impact on Telangana: Met Dept

T Harish Rao advised officials to ensure that food grains are stored properly so that there is no damage from the rains.

Hyderabad: The TS government has put marketing and other departments on high alert with weathermen predicting rains in the next few days due to the influence of Cyclone Kyant.

Minister T Harish Rao told marketing officials to take all precautionary measures to save food grains brought to market yards by farmers. He advised officials to ensure that food grains are stored properly so that there is no damage from the rains.

The state suffered a loss of over Rs 2,202 crore due to the recent heavy rains which also destroyed a large extent of standing crops. Meanwhile, the Met department said that there is no indication that the cyclone is moving towards Telangana.

The deep depression situated 320 km from Visakhapatnam and 460 km from Machilipatnam will have no major impact on TS except for increased wind velocity. As per Thursday’s report, wind velocity in Hyderabad was about 10 kmph during the morning hours in the core city and slightly more on the outskirts.

The local weather bureau explained, “Cyclonic storm Kyant over west-central Bay of Bengal weakened into deep depression over west-central Bay of Bengal and moved further west-south-westwards and lay centered over west central Bay of Bengal. It is most likely to move west-south-westwards and weaken further into a depression during next 24 hours. The storm will have no affect on Telangana districts.”

The forecast for the state till October 29 is that dry weather is likely to prevail over the state. However, the forecast for the last two days of the month is that light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana.
