Warangal: College guard dogs maul student

Students demanded action against the warden who did not inform the caretakers about the presence of students on the grounds.

Warangal: A second year engineering student of Balaji Institute of Technology and Sciences, Ramya, was severely injured after three dogs attacked her on the college campus on Thursday night. She was first taken to a private hospital in Narsampet and later shifted to Hyderabad as her condition deteriorated.

The students protested in front of the college on Friday morning demanding justice. The dogs which attacked her are reared by the college management. They remain chained during the day and are let off at night to guard the campus.

On Thursday night, the students, who stay in the college hostel were decorating the building for freshers’ day and Bathukamma to be held on Friday. At about 11 pm, the caretakers let the dogs loose. The dogs attacked the students who ran into their hostel rooms. The dogs caught up with Ramya and dragged her away. Other students brought sticks and drove them away. By that time, Ramya was severely bitten.

Students demanded action against the warden who did not inform the caretakers about the presence of students on the grounds. They demanded that the management bear the medical expenses and pay an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh.
