Devnar school for blind flooded, kids shifted

The monsoon relief team prioritised dewatering the school after the video of the inundation went viral.

Hyderabad: The ground floor of the Devnar School for the Blind in Mayuri Marg, a low lying area in Begumpet, was flooded on the pre-dawn downpour, forcing the students to move upstairs.

The nearly 300 visually impaired students were forced were stranded until the premises were de-watered. Anticipating a repeat of the situation of there is another spell of heavy rains, the school authorities declared early Dasara holidays from Friday.

The Devnar School is located at the tail end of Mayuri Marg, where the road slopes towards the establishment. The houses located at the entrance of the road were inundated and the water finally made its way to the school and swamped the premises. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation team deployed high-intensity motors to drain out the water right from the principal’s room to the inhouse playground.

Students stayed back until the premises were dewatered before venturing out.
