Vintage cars to whizz, this Dasara

On October 1, 12 of these cars will leave Lalit Mahal Palace for the Mysuru palace where six cars will drive in front of the Dasara elephants.

Mysuru: As many as 50 vintage cars from across the country and abroad will criss-cross the city between September 30 and October 2 as part of the “Royal Classic Car Drive to Mysuru” being organised as a prelude to the 10-day Dasara festivities. Former maharajas from Jaipur, Lucknow and Goa and well know industrialists from India and overseas will drive 50 vintage and classic cars to Mysuru as part of the event hosted by the Federation of Historic Vehicles of India (FHVI) in association with the tourism department and others.

Cars from the 1920s to 1980s like the Lanchester, Mercedes, Jaguar, Ford, Buick, Chevrolet, Morris, Austin, Alfa Romeo, Triumph, Volkswage and, Lincoln will zip across Mysuru during the event, , according to Dr Ravi Prakash, president, FHVI. The Royal Classic Car Drive, which will have 12 participants from abroad, 22 from across India and 16 from Bengaluru, including Mr Patrick Rollet, president of the Federation International Vehicle Anciens (FIVA), official partner of UNESCO, will be flagged off on September 30 by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy at 8 am near the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru and reach the Lalit Mahal Palace in Mysuru at 1.30 pm.

A few hours later, at 4 pm, the cars will leave Lalit Mahal Palace to drive through Mysuru before entering an illuminated Mysuru Palace at 6 pm, where they will park in a horse shoe shape to the playing of a police band for over an hour before returning. On October 1, 12 of these cars will leave Lalit Mahal Palace for the Mysuru palace where six cars will drive in front of the Dasara elephants taking their morning stroll and six cars behind.
