Thiruvananthapuram: 14 police shifted over salary dare

Top police officials maintained that the transfer had no connection with the salary challenge.'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 14 police personnel of Special Armed Police (SAP) were allegedly transferred for not contributing one month’s salary to the Chief Minister’s distress relief fund.

The transfer order was being reviewed by the Armed Police Battalion headquarters in the wake of the allegations. Top police officials maintained that the transfer had no connection with the ‘salary challenge.’

According to sources, 40 police personnel, including nine havildars and 31 constables of SAP here, were transferred to Rap-id Response and Rescue Force (RRRF) headquartered at Pandikkad in Malappuram.

It was alleged that 14 police personnel who did not contribute for the flood relief were included in the transfer list by flouting seniority norms. As per practice, the juniormost police personnel should have been transferred. However, that was not followed in this order, police sources said.

Armed Police DIG Shefeen Ahammed, who issued the transfer order, has directed the SAP commandant to review the list in the wake of the controversies.
An armed police official said that the DIG had directed the SAP commandant to give the list of the juniormost officials. The transfer orders were issued on the basis of the list provided by the SAP commandant.

Moreover, the deputation to RRRF was meant for security cover of the secretariat. Hence, the 40 police personnel would be posted in Thiruvananthapuram itself, said the official.
