Therambil Ramakrishnan snubs switchover reports
Thrissur: Putting an end to rumours regarding him joining BJP and contesting from Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency on a BJP ticket, senior Congress leader Therambil Ramakrishnan cleared the air stating such media reports were baseless.
Rumour mills were working overtime for the past two days with the some web portals carrying the ‘news’ that the Congress veteran had held talks with BJP state president P. S. Sreedharan Pillai and he would be the BJP’s candidate from Thrissur in the general elections in 2019.
“For a senior Congressman like me, to hear the news that I held talks with BJP to cross over from Congress itself is an insult. The news in baseless and I don’t know who are spreading such rumours,” Therambil told mediapersons at his house at Ayyanthole here on Thursday.
Threrambil served as MLA for 30 years and as Speaker for two terms. His close friends and relatives had denied such reports soon after the news spread on social media.
Therambil was upset over denial of party ticket in 2016 polls from where he had won with a considerable majority in 2011. However, top BJP functionaries here said that there would be definitely some miffed Congress and CPM leaders holding talks with BJP for joining the party before 2019 LS polls.
