Pydi Raju died in hospital, Hyderabad High Court told
Hyderabad: Visakhapatnam Police on Thursday informed Hyderabad High Court that Gorle Pydi Raju, an alleged habitual offender, died in a private hospital and not in the lock up of Central Crime Station (CCS) of Visakhapatnam.
A Division Bench, comprising Justice C.V. Naga-rjuna Reddy and Justice G. Shyam Prasad, while dealing with a Habeas Corpus petition by Visakha Civil Liberties Union, represented by its president Nawaz Hussain Akbar, seeking to direct the police to produce Pydi Raju and his wife before the court and directed Visakhapatnam Police to file a report in the case.
The petitioner submitted that on September 13, 2018, the newspapers published reports that one Pydi Raju, an alleged habitual offender, died in the lock up of the Central Crime Station (CCS) due to third degree interrogation by the police.
The Station House Offi-cer of the CCS on Thursday filed an affidavit before the Bench stating that Pydi Raju was apprehended by the patrolling team in the early hours on September 10 at MVP Colony and he was brought to the CCS and later was let free in view of bandobust duties of Bharath Bandh on next day due to shortage of staff.
The SHO annexed the statement of the wife of the deceased with the affidavit wherein the wife admitted that she took her husband to a private hospital due to ill health and while undergoing treatment, he died.
When the counsel for the petitioner sought time to file a reply on the affidavit of the SHO, the Bench adjourned the case for a week.
