Hyderabad: Aide in cash for vote scam raided

He was subjected to questioning by the IT sleuths. No cash or documents were seized from his house.

Hyderabad: A team from the income-tax department raided the residence of Bishop Harry Sebastian at Ameerpet. Bishop Sebastian is known to be a close aide of Congress leader Revanth Reddy, whose house too was raided, and is also accused number two in a charge-sheet filed by the Anti Corruption Bureau in relation to the cash-for-vote scam.

He was subjected to questioning by the IT sleuths. No cash or documents were seized from his house.

The bishop is alleged to have played a prime role in the controversial cash-for-vote scam. He was alleged to be Revanth Reddy's conduit while fixing a deal of Rs 5 crore to be paid to Anglo-Indian nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson, to vote in favour of the TD nominee in the Telangana Legislative Council polls held in 2015.

He was the main link that connected Revanth Reddy and MLA Elvis Stephenson.

Mr Stephenson was allegedly offered a ticket to Jerusalem along with Rs 1 crore in cash if he voted in favour of the Telugu Desam.

The alleged offer gradually grew to Rs 5 crore in addition to an MLA seat in Andhra Pradesh under the Anglo-Indian quota.
