The government has carried out a detailed land survey and demarcation of project sites, carrying capacity assessment of the project islands, coastal regulation zone application and pre-feasibility study to facilitate development on public private partnership basis.
A total of 1,382 off-shore islands including several rocky islets have been identified for development. The development potential of these islands and maritime resources has been accorded high priority. About 11 ‘anchor’ tourism projects in Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep islands and several infrastructure projects including desalination plants, digital connectivity, green energy have been identified for implementation in phase 1 with private participation.
The concessionaire will have to undertake designing, construction, finance, development, operation and maintenance of the following additional facilities, the ancillary facilities, as part of the project.
The concessionaire shall be entitled to develop the beach for providing beach facilities such as beach activities (jet skiing, scuba diving, snorkelling, game fishing, kayaking, water surfing and para gliding), beach beds, changing rooms, watch towers etc., according to NITI Aayog. The Aayog hopes to use the agreement, developed in consultation with the ministry of tourism, as base document for developing specific eco-tourism projects.
