Bihar native arrested for vandalising Mahatma Gandhi statue

According to police, the accused, identified as Deep, is mentally unstable.

Kochi: A statue of Mahatma Gandhi located at the Gandhi Square in Kacheripaddy was found to have been vandalised on Thursday morning with the cops arresting a Bihar native following a probe based on CCTV visuals collected from near-by shops.

According to police, the accused, identified as Deep, is mentally unstable. “The visuals showed him attempting to pull down the concrete structure from its platform by force. The statue broke into two parts in the impact of the fall and its head portion was lying on the ground,” police said.

Earlier, the Gandhi Peace Foundation lodged a complaint with the Central Police. “A detailed probe is on. Our preliminary probe found the man is mentally unsound,” they said.
