Anantapur: Filmstar and Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna has got enrolled as a voter of Hindupur Assembly constituency through online procedures on Thursaday.
Though Balakrishna is a legislator from Hindupur in AP, he is a voter in Telangana. The filmstar turned politician was a voter from Khairathabad Assembly constituency and a resident of Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad City.
Balakrishna contested from Hindupur in the last Assembly elections but was a voter from Telangana. The Opposition parties criticised the filmstar for not having a vote in AP though he contested from an Assembly constituency in AP.
In the view of voter enrolment drive, Balakrishna cancelled his vote in Hyderabad and applied for voter enrolment online as a resident of a rented house in Chowdeswari Colony within Hindupur Municipal limits. As part of a regular visit, the MLA arrived to Hindupur on Thursday and got an approval copy from Hindupur Tahasildar Viswanath for enrolment as a voter from Hindupur Assembly segment.
With Balakrishna getting enrolled as a voter from Hindupur Assembly segment, which has been a sentiment for his family since his father N.T. Rama Rao served as the Chief Minister and also the leader of the Opposition, sources revealed that he is likely to contest in coming polls from the segment.
Speculations are rife over change of segment for Balakrishna to coastal area and that his son-in-law Nara Lokesh will be fielded from Hindupur. The filmstar turned politician is reportedly not willing to change segment and contest from Hindupur in the upcoming polls.
