Thunderstorm may hit Telangana in next two days
Hyderabad: The Indian meteorological department has put out a thunderstorm warning for Telangana state for two more days, as high temperatures and humidity persist in the state.
On Wednesday morning, Hyderabad city was struck by a thunderstorm, with rains and strong winds. The city received 3.5 cm of rainfall. The rain and high winds lasted for a short period but toppled five trees and two electric poles, and caused power tripping in nine localities.
Rainfall was recorded in Musheerabad, Medhipatnam , Malkajgiri, Marredpally, Alwal, Jubilee Hills, and Khairatabad.
The IMD said monsoon currents had returned to normal over the two Telugu states, due to an upper air circulation (disturbance) over coastal AP and south Odisha. Under its impact, coastal AP and Rayalaseema will receive rains for the next three days.
On Wednesday a heavy rainfall covered many districts in AP and there was scattered rainfall across TS.
Telangana state has so far received 62.8 cm of rains against the norm of 74.07 cm, indicating a 15 per cent deficit. The areas covered by seven undivided districts are facing a shortfall in rainfall; excess rainfall was recorded only in Hyderabad, Khammam and Warangal districts.
In Andhra Pradesh, coastal AP recorded 15 per cent excess rainfall and Rayalaseema 26 per cent.
The forecast for TS is thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds at isolated places on Thursday and heavy rain on Friday.
For coastal AP and Rayalaseema, the IMD-H predicted thunderstorms associated with heavy rain at isolated places on Thursday and heavy rains on Friday.
