Tamil Nadu Governor urges students to design greener toilets

He appealed to all the educational institutions to build adequate toilets.

CHENNAI: “The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ Campaign seeks to mobilise people to come out and directly involve themselves in the Swachh Bharat mission. Each one of us should offer Shramdaan for Swachhata in the fortnight leading to Gandhi Jayanthi on 2 nd October,” said Governor of TN, C.H Vidyasagar Rao at the event held to promote Swacch Bharat mission on Wednesday.

He said while India is in the forefront in all the aspects and holds the pride of launching 104 satellites in a single mission, the only pressing issue of the country includes lack of sanitation, cleanliness and unhygienic practices.

He appealed to all the educational institutions to build adequate toilets and promote green cover and the need to educate people on cleanliness. He encouraged the students to come out with innovative toilets that would require less water.

US consul general meets Governor
Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao on Wednesday underlined the need for developing a comprehensive plan for drinking water requirements of Chennai under the partnership platform with USAID, business and civil society during his meeting with Consul General of the US Robert Burgess.

Rao told Burgess, who called on him here at the Raj Bhavan, said the collaboration would facilitate development of expertise in the fields of water management, sanitation maintenance and sewage disposal.

During the meeting, the Consul General said that India and United States have marked 70 years of diplomatic relations. He also said India-US Investment initiative aims on promotion of more investment, security, education, capital market development and financing of infrastructure and renewable energy.

He also told Rao that the long history and close ties between U.S. and South India, especially Tamil Nadu, has to be further expanded and deepened.

“Rao highlighted the need for developing a comprehensive plan for drinking water requirements of Chennai city under the partnership platform with USAID, business and civil society,” Raj Bhavan said in a press release here. “There is lot of scope for economic development in each District in Tamil Nadu as each one has its own economic activity,” Rao told Burgess.
