S Sudhikumar takes charge at Chettikulangara temple

Based on his complaint, the police registered a case against the accused, said Mr K. Sadan, circle inspector, Kayamkulam.

ALAPPUZHA: Mr S. Sudhikumar, the non-Brahmin priest, who joined as Keezhsaanthi of Chettikulangara temple, received a death threat on Wednesday.

Mr Sudhikumar said that the threat was made by Narayana Sarma alias Chingoli Narayana Sarma, an employee with the TDB in Neyyattinkara section.

Sarma came to his house on a bike along with another person while Sudhikumar had gone out and shouted at his wife saying that the Chettikulangara temple belonged to them and that Sudhikumar would be hacked to death if he joins the temple.

Based on his complaint, the police registered a case against the accused, said Mr K. Sadan, circle inspector, Kayamkulam.

Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran, in a Facebook post, said that those who try to bring back ‘untouchability’ maybe unhappy to see Sudhikumar becoming ‘Keezhsaanthi.’

He will be very much there at Chettikul-angara temple as Keezhsaanthi, he said.

Mr Sudhikumar, who received the appointment order from assistant commissioner of devaswom, Mavelikara, went Chettikungangara temple and signed in the register book before beginning ‘Deeparaadhana’.

He was accorded a warm welcome by many people led by Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam Mavelikara union. Mr Sudhikumar would start his regular job from Thursday.
