Indian Medical Association doctors to go on hunger strike

The IMA has also sought the withdrawal of the National Medical Council Bill.

Hyderabad: Doctors from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) will stage a hunger strike on October 2 to demand a speedy implementation of Clinical Establishment Act and measures to tackle violence against medical professionals.

The IMA has also sought the withdrawal of the National Medical Council Bill. It has also demanded capping of compensation under the Consumer Protection Act in case of a medical negligence.

Dr K.K. Aggarwal, the president of IMA, said, “The compensation awarded is more on emotional grounds which cannot be applied in the medical field. We want the government to objectively look into the issue.”
