Telangana: Rains ebb, inflows into all major dams gradually dip

There was a marginal decline in inflows at Singur and Nizamsagar dams, though Manjeera is still in spate.

Hyderabad: With no heavy rains in the catchment areas of Godavri and Krishna basins, inflows into major irrigation dams in the state decreased on Tuesday.

The Sriramsagar project, which was getting inflows of over 4 lakh cusecs till Monday evening, on Tuesday saw the inflows dip to around 3 lakh cusecs.

There was a marginal decline in inflows at Singur and Nizamsagar dams, though Manjeera is still in spate. Correspondingly, inflow to Sriramsagar will get further reduced by Wednesday evening.

A Sriramsagar official said though fresh rains stopped, water already flowing in Godavari and Manjeera prism will reach Sriramsagar for the next two to three days and then decrease.

“Once we see the decline, we may close a few floodgates and start building up storage at all these dams,” said the official. At Srisailam too, inflows declined from 1,70,000 cusecs to 1.25 lakh cusecs by Tuesday evening.

The authorities are building up storage at the dam which is still short of around 20 tmc ft to attain its full reservoir capacity of 215 tmc ft.

Officials continued release floodwaters to Nagarjunasagar dam in the range of 73,000 cusecs through powerhouses located on left and right banks of the dam.
