Hyderabad: Erring eateries pay huge fines
Hyderabad: The Hotel Taj Mahal along the Sarojini Devi road at Secunderabad, was on Tuesday fined Rs 10,000 by the GHMC’s health officers for not having a filter mechanism for the water being served to costumers.
The Grand Bawarchi at Charminar meanwhile, was fined for dumping waste in the nalas nearby. These two food businesses are among several who have been fined for civic violations.
The GHMC has come down heavily on city restaurants and total fines have now reached Rs 1.5 lakh. Surprise visits were conducted at 379 food outlets — including tiffin centers, hostels, dhabas and restaurants.
The civic body’s bosses have passed orders stating that each assistant medical health officer should visit 100 hotels a day to check on sanitation, trade license and to impose fines if businesses are found littering or using plastics bags below 50 microns.
Officials checks were also conducted at the Grand Solitaire hotel and Nanking restaurant at Secunderabad, the Blue Sea, Taj Tristar, the Reliance hotel, the Take Away Biryani point, Anamaiya hotel at BN Reddy Nagar, Deccan dhaba and others.
The Commissioner has also ordered a special drive on commercial buildings to identify sanitation and trade license violators. Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner, GHMC said: “The special drive has identified 38 hotels for violating hygiene rules. Many businesses were also found throwing refuse into the nalas.”
