Godavari water touches 37.9 feet at Bhadradri
Khammam: Godavari water level touched 37.9 feet at Bhadrachalam on Tuesday night. The superintendent engineer of the irrigation department at Bhadrachalam is monitoring the flood situation.
The water released from Sriramsagar project reached Bhadracha-lam on Tuesday. Over five lakh cusecs of water has flowed into the Godavari.
It is expected that the water level may touch 40 feet on Wednesday.
Revenue officials have been asked to be ready to face any situation in Bhadrachalam and Paloncha divisions after Godvari touched the first warning level of 43 feet, followed by 48 feet as second warning.
The third warning will be declared if the water level touches 53 feet. There have been occasions when the river witnessed more than 53 feet. The danger will be still more if the water exceeded 70 feet at Bhadrachalam; inundation will be high at these water levels. The floodwater exceeded 60 feet in 1986, 1991 and 2006.
Meanwhile, about 18,000 cusecs water is being released from Taliperu project.
Horticulture officials have asked farmers to take precautionary measures to protect their crops of chilli, mango, guava, lemon, papaya and tomato. They should drain water from the fields by ploughing between the rows of plants.
