Bihar: No Personal Ambition, Says Nitish Kumar

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said he has no “personal ambition” and is working to expand the Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (INDIA).
His statement came amid buzz in political circles that he could be made the convenor during the third meeting of the Opposition bloc INDIA in Mumbai on August 31 and September 1.

“I have told you earlier also that I have no personal ambition. The post may be offered to someone else. I only want to unite everyone”, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said.
Mr. Kumar, who has been at the forefront of uniting the political parties, initiated the first round of meetings in Patna on June 23, which 16 opposition parties attended. The second meeting was held on July 18 in Bengaluru.

While hinting at the expansion of INDIA, Nitish Kumar had earlier claimed that more political parties would join the Opposition bloc at its upcoming meeting in Mumbai.

Mr. Kumar, during his interaction with reporters on Sunday, said that during the upcoming meeting in Mumbai, political parties would make strategies for next year’s general elections, and “seat sharing and other important issues will also be discussed. More political parties will soon join our alliance”.

According to Mahagathbandhan insiders, several political parties in the NDA are in touch with the INDIA bloc, and some of them are likely to join the opposition alliance.

According to sources, some important decisions will likely be taken during the meeting in Mumbai on August 31 and September 1. Reports suggest that the alliance may finalize the coordination committee that will be formed to oversee the working of the Opposition INDIA bloc.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi said in a statement that “Nitish Kumar is left with no other option after Rahul Gandhi became the undeclared Prime Ministerial candidate of the opposition parties.”
