OOTY: The revenue administration here in Ooty has taken possession of 1.65 acres of land in the Northeast corner of Ooty race course, adjoining the ATC bus stop limits, as efforts to establish parking lot in the acquired land has begun to gain momentum.
While the race course in the arterial part of this hill town, manned by Madras Race Club(MRC), and the issues such as creation of parking lot there and the possibility of shifting the race course to alternate site had been doing the rounds for the past two weeks, finally, there is some clarity now as the MRC has parted with 1.65 acres of land in the race course, thus paving way for the creation of parking lot here.
R. Ganesh (Congress), MLA of Ooty, who had been very vocal on creation of parking lot at race course, said that acquisition of 1.65 acres of land has come as a new dawn towards tackling parking issue in Ooty town limits.
My demand is to take away five acres of land. As of now, 1.65 acres of land in race course adjoining ATC bus stop have been acquired. This will be handed over to the municipal administration in Ooty for creating parking facility there. Soon efforts will be taken to acquire the remaining land necessary for parking at the Southwest corner of the race course adjoining the central bus stand,: he noted.
As far as alternate site for the Ooty race course is concerned, the district administration should consider allotting the vacant land in the now defunct Hindustan Photo Films premises or along the Old Mysore Road area, both places being in suburbs of Ooty, he suggested.
