Kozhikode: Temporary walkway over Korappuzha to be rebuilt

Earlier, the district administration had instructed the demolition of the bridge to increase the water flow to prevent flooding after heavy rains.

Kozhikode: The minister for transport A.K. Saseendran has assured the residents of both banks of Korappuzha that their travel blues would be resolved soon.

Addressing a meeting at the District Collector's chamber on the restoration of temporary pavement in Korapuzha, Mr Saseendran said on Tuesday that reconstruction work will begin on Wednesday and the renovation of the temporary pavement would be completed in time.

“Access to travel is the legitimate right of public”, Saseendran said. It has been noted that many people travel through the railway track. This can be dangerous, he said.

Earlier, the Uralungal Labor Co-operative Cont-ract Society had started a boat service at Korapuzha but this was halted when the temporary walkway was opened. The temporary pavement was built across Korapuzha, as part of the renovation of the bridge. The minister directed the concerned to complete the construction as soon as possible. District Collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao, National Highway Executive Engineer K.Vinayaraj and ULCCS representatives were present at the meeting.
