Coimbatore: Goldsmith robbed of 116 sovereigns
COIMBATORE: The city police on Tuesday have launched a search for a person who in a cat-like operation, allegedly slipped away with 116 sovereigns of gold jewels kept in a bag from a goldsmith in a running bus near Coimbatore.
According to police, Abinai, 41, a resident of Variety Hall road owns a goldsmith workshop at Raja Street in Coimbatore. Ravichandran, a goldsmith working for Abinai, had taken around 150 sovereigns of gold jewels to Salem couple of days ago. After dispatching a few orders to jewelry outlets there, Ravichandran started towards Coimbatore on Tuesday along with the remaining 116 sovereigns of gold ornaments.
While nearing a private college bus stop near Peelamedu in the suburbs of Coimbatore, Ravichandran was shocked to see 116 sovereigns of gold ornaments kept in the bag missing. Immediately, he lodged a complaint at Peelamedu police station.
Acting on the complaint, police alerted neighboring town police stations and prepared a detailed list of offenders involved in repeated waylaying incidents on the same stretch and those recently released on bail as part of their investigations. Probe is on.
