Hyderabad: Immersion starts with pomp, gaiety
Hyderabad: Devotees took to the streets to celebrate the first day of the immersion with pomp and gaiety. A majority of the processions were from colonies and families. Braving the ban, many of them were seen carrying idols made of plaster of paris.
For many devotees, Hussainsagar remained the favourite destination. The police recorded about 500 immersions on Sunday. The immersions are slated to continue till 1 am.
About the geo-tagged idols, the police from Cyberabad commissionerate stated that over 350 idols were immersed into lakes out of the 8,500 registered.
The north zone saw over 90 major immersions. GHMC officials said 1,500 immersions were witnessed in the lakes in north zone alone.
“People took to the streets early to avoid the rush from pandals, which take out the procession in the evening. Moreover, hiring a band is also cheaper now,” said a devotee at the Uppal Lake.
