Energy efficient system must for Central buildings

EESL is planning to cover more than 10,000 government and private buildings at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore by 2020.

Hyderabad: The Union finance ministry has made installation of energy efficient applications mandatory in all Central government buildings in the country.

The finance ministry said that usage of LED based lightings and energy-efficient cooling equipment such as fans and air-conditioners will lead to a reduction in energy consumption. Many government buildings are old and consume a large amount of energy. Energy Efficiency Services (EESL) is entrusted with this task.

EESL is planning to cover more than 10,000 government and private buildings at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore by 2020. It is estimated that about 1 crore LED lights, 15 lakh energy efficient ceiling fans and 1.5 lakh energy-efficient ACs will be retrofitted by EESL in these buildings.
